Our Target/Drug Discovery Project

Use brite/brown fat cells to identify new targets and drugs regulating energy expenditure and mitochondrial health

Our murine preadipocyte cell-lines offer an unlimited and renewable supply of clonal cells, enabling faster screening for bioactive compounds and identification and characterization of gene/protein targets involved in fat metabolism and thermogenesis. We have thoroughly characterized gene expression and metabolism of these cells at various stages of growth and differentiation into brown and brite adipocytes. These cells were characterized by RNA-seq computational analysis, genetic lineage markers, expression of genes controlling lipid and carbohydrate metabolism and functional responses to cold and thyroid hormone. This technology provides a cell-based target validation and drug discovery platform that enhances the ability to find agents that stimulate energy expenditure or improve mitochondrial health. Through various cell-based assays and high-throughput screens, we can efficiently screen for RNAi, biologics, or small molecule drugs that alter multiple aspects of preadipocytes and adipocyte growth, differentiation and metabolism.

The cell lines that Brite Therapeutics, Inc. has discovered and characterized can be used to identify targets and compounds that improve metabolism, enhance energy expenditure and improve mitochondrial health by altering brite/brown fat cell differentiation and stimulating fatty acid oxidation, thermogenesis, mitochondrial activity, and lipid/carbohydrate metabolism. The company is open to partnerships using these cells to identify and validate new targets and to screen, characterize, and optimiize new drug candidates to treat obesity and related indications.
